Ok..on with their story! All I’m about to write is the exact words from Emily……………Sit down & grab a drink cause it’s long…hahahaha!
We met in April 2003….we are high school sweethearts & have been inseparable ever since.
THE PROPOSAL:::::Russ asked me to marry him on June 19, 2005 while we were visiting his parents summer home in Colorado. It was my first trip to Colorado, a place that Russ & his family spend much of their time.
We got off the plane in Grand Junction, Colorado after flying from Houston, Tx. Then we had to drive 3 hours to Lake City, CO where their summer home is. It was a long day & I was tired of traveling. Upon our arrival, Russ insisted that we go to see his favorite local attraction, the North Clear Creek Falls. It was almost 7pm & I was whining because I was tired…..but I am SO glad I gave in because I had NO idea he was about to propose. After a 45 minute drive up Slumgullion Pass, we made it to the waterfall. It was worth it…so beautiful! Russ led me up a little path to the top of a hill overlooking this amazing gorge and while we were standing there, he hugged me and said, “Don’t you know I love you more than all of this?” and I said, “me too” and then within seconds, he was down on his knee, and had the ring box in his hand. I started screaming and crying and I realized that people were repelling down the side of the waterfall and I didn’t want to continue to cause a scene…so I just tackled him and gave him the biggest hug. It was the best moment of my life. After I calmed down a bit, we placed some rocks in the shape of a heart right where we were standing when he asked me. Every year since 2005, we have gone back to “our spot” and our rocks have been there, in the exact place where we placed them that day in June of 2005. It was such a special place and I couldn’t have had a more perfect proposal. If you ever visit the Falls, you may see them :)
It was such a special place in my heart that I made a special trip with Russ in September of 2009 with my wedding gown in tow and had Alisha come from Utah to take my bridals where he asked me. We also took engagement portraits there and I believe it was one of the most special things we did before the wedding. I dreamed of taking my portraits there…and Alisha made it happen!
We were married on November 14, 2009 in Beaumont, TX at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica. It was an afternoon Mass followed by a dessert reception at The Julie Rogers Theatre for the performing Arts.
I had a Lazaro Gown and had a seamstress in Beaumont create several heirloom pieces from my mother’s wedding gown. She made hankerchiefs for my sister and godsister, mother, mother-in-law and for myself out of extra lace from my mothers gown. She shortened the length of my mother’s wedding gown and I left our reception headed to Turks and Caicos for my honeymoon wearing my Mother’s “updated” gown. My veil was custom made with the appliqué’s that were on my mother’s veil, and the lace that trimmed the train on her gown lined the entire outside edge of my veil. It was something special I wanted to do to honor my mother. My garter was also made from the lace in her gown.
The rosary in my bouquet was a handmade gift from my mother-in-law the day of our wedding. I knew she was making it for me, but didn’t see it until the day of our wedding. She brought it to our florist because I wanted it to be a surprise. She had it engraved with our names and date. So special!
November 14, 2009 surpassed all my expectations…you plan so long for this day and once it finally gets here - it’s over in a second! We couldn’t have had a succesful and beautiful day without all of the vendors and venues we worked with. I planned our wedding, and used the following talented and creative professionals:
Joe Simon & team of Joe Simon Productions (Videographer) I don’t care how much this man costs to have him be your videographer….he is worth EVERY SHINEY PENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want the best…you have to pay for the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Phyllis Pope of Bevil’s Florist in Beaumont, TX (Flowers) (409) 898-2117
Champagne’s Specialty Cakes in Nederland, TX (Bride’s Cake) (409) 898-2117
Linens by the fabulous ladies at Occasion’s in Nederland, TX (409) 729-8555
Disc Jockey - Donna Marks of Bowtie Entertainment
Our ceremony was at St. Anthony Cathdral Basilica and our reception was in the Julie Rogers Theatre in Downtown Beaumont, where I grew up performing in numerous dance recitals and now teach at the Bonnie Cokinos School of Dance.
Emily left from the Julie Rogers theatre with her father & miniature bride, Grace, in a Rolls Royce that took them to Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica.
Notice the license plate on the Rolls…it has their last name :-)

Emily & Russ used the kneeler that Emily used during her sacramental journey at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.

The bridal party was so fun to work with.

Check out this gorgeous cake!!! This was all set up so beautifully.

This is the coolest groom cake EVER!!!!!!!! Pictures really don’t do it justice, but this thing was HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the dancing on the stage was sooo fun! EVERYBODY had a great time & danced. I love it when the bride & groom have dancing at their reception & the guests actually get up & dance. It makes a reception SOOO fun!!!!

I love this shot because they are in their own magical moment! Just them & no one else….so romantic!

Now let me tell you about this guy! He was a hoot….omgosh he had me laughing. It’s sooo great to have friends that bring happiness to your lives. This man…he definitely puts a smile on your face :-) He sang a song to Emily & Russ while they danced.

Doin a little dance with Russ’s mother. hahahahaa…I’m telling you this man is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would be the wedding dress of Emily’s mother…read story above for details. When she came out those doors in this dress….my heart skipped a beat. She looked soo beautiful & not to mention the special heirloom she now has.
